Projects such as The North Embarcadero Visionary Plan, The New Public Library, The Park to the Bay Link, and The Balboa Theatre redevelopment are all represented in this report.

>> 30 Years of Defining Moments:

In 1976, Pete Wilson (Then Mayor San Diego) created the non-profit agency known as The Centre City Development Corporation. This organization was given the responsibility of transforming Downtown San Diego into the strongest economic and cultural urban center on the West Coast. After three decades of implementing redevelopment initiatives, Downtown San Diego has realized: more than $5 Billion in public and private investment, the creation of more than 50,000 jobs, 8,000 hotel rooms, 6 Million square feet of commercial space, and more than 10,000 new residential urban homes. With over three decades of successes, and three more decades to realize it’s final vision, this report outlines the CCDC’s plans for future Residential, Commercial, and Infrastructure development that will continue to strengthen and redefine the urban center of Downtown San Diego.

>> Financing the Future:

The CCDC is a nonprofit organization with the sole purpose of redeveloping Downtown San Diego, while promoting economic and social prosperity in the process. A combination of redevelopment funds and private investment are incorporated together in order to address infrastructure and social needs, while managing the growing operational and maintenance needs of the Downtown area. A breakdown of how redevelopment funds are collected and allocated are covered in this informational report.

>> Ensuring a Great Quality of Life:

In order to make Downtown San Diego a valuable place to live, there must be systems and a commitment to preserving a high quality urban lifestyle. As part of the Redevelopment and Community Plan for Downtown San Diego, the CCDC is responsible for creating the sense of a true residential urban community. This report details the systems, the people, and projects that make Downtown valuable today, and how the CCDC will continue to ensure that the high quality urban lifestyle will continue well into the future.

>> What’s in the Mix for 2006:

More than six million feet of new development is either approved or under construction in Downtown San Diego. This development is a mixture of Residential, Retail, Commercial, Office, Hotel, and Public Space. Without a resource to identify and locate all of the development sites, it would be hard to identify every hole in the ground and every crane in a construction site. A comprehensive description of all the development projects, and an interactive map detailing the locations, is a valuable resource to understanding the vision of revitalization that will continue to redefine Downtown San Diego.

>> Urban Oasis-CCDC’s Downtown Park Strategy:

High-Density Urban Development is only balanced by Public Plazas and Park/Green space that provide places for recreation, interaction, and rest for Urban Residents. This report provides current information on existing parks, new project updates, and a detailed map of Downtown Parks and Opens Spaces.

>> On the Move-Transit, Parking, and Connectivity:

Downtown San Diego currently has over 30,000 urban residents, and roughly 75,000 workers. In addition, hundreds of thousands convention visitors and tourists visit Downtown San Diego on a yearly basis. As a result, nearly every public transportation option converges on Downtown: the airport, the train, the Coaster and Trolley system, cruise ships and ferries, freeways, and the extensive network of bus lines. The dense redevelopment of Downtown has caused the CCDC to re-examine, solutions to traffic problems, pedestrian safety, air pollution, and public transportation. The CCDC is continuing to pursue solutions to parking issues, and encourage the use of public transportation by keeping it safe, clean, efficient, and affordable.

>> Realizing a Renaissance:
