A Bigger, Better & More Intimate Boat Show

January 28th, 2011 by Mike

boat-show.jpgTwo years ago, the Sunroad Boat Show moved out of it’s downtown San Diego locale, behind the Convention Center, and on to the Sunroad Resort Marina on Harbor Island. With a more intimate, homier feel the show is prepared for the growth it will see this time around.

Why the growth of a boat show in this slow economy? Well, there is more water space for brokers to showcase used boats and let’s be honest, this is a time for great deals if you’re in the market for one. With the latest boats on exhibit, more booths, products and in water boats to see, this very fun event will be 10% bigger.

Beginning January 27, the Sunroad Boat Show will open with hours from noon-6pm (on the 27th & 28th) and 10am-6pm on the 29th and 30th. $10/adults, $5/kids (12-16), under 12, military, emergency techs, police and fire employees will all be admitted free (now that’s how it should be).  This is a very cool event, be sure to check it out if you haven’t done so!

San Diego International Airport - is Getting a Facelift

January 24th, 2011 by Mike

A mirror image of the existing terminal at Lindbergh Field will soon be seen by Downtown San Diego Condo & Loft home owners, residents and travelers. The $1 billion expansion will transform the airport to a totally new Terminal 2. The Green Build, as its called, will have 10 new gates and a common area for travelers, a dual-level roadway for arrivals and departing passangers and a curbside check in with its own underground baggage conveyor track.

If you have a chance to stop by to take a look you will see  the 1.5 million square foot concrete that has been poured over the 784 support piles in Downtown San Diego. In February…the prefabricated steel will start to come in from Arizona and after a couple of months the skeletal structure should be in place.

To read more about this project visit the San Diego Union Tribune.

Parking Tickets Save City $3 Million

January 20th, 2011 by Mike

When you live in a downtown San Diego loft or condo, parking comes at a premium. Whether or not you have one, two or zero parking spots, you know the hassle of finding parking…and the familiarity of the above photo. A brilliant somebody discovered that the city had been absorbing a $9.50 state surcharge on tickets that motorists should be paying…this discovery will save our beloved (and financially strapped) city $3 million big ones! The state has also recently issued another $3 surcharge so all tickets now have an additional $12.50 charge. These surcharges fund state trial court building, just so you know.

So that $30 expired meter ticket, that every once in awhile felt tolerable to pay, is now going to cost you $42.50…ouch! Watch those meters, my downtown San Diego friends (and visitors). Watch those meters!
