homeless_woman.jpg On November 3rd, the San Diego City Council voted 8-0 on placement of the adult winter emergency homeless shelter. Located in downtown San Diego’s East Village area, at 1625 Newton Ave., a shelter will open its doors on Thanksgiving Day. If you remember, back at the end of October, a vote was reached to place the shelter at Golden Hall. This vote was reversed once the city realized a revenue loss of $390,000 along with a breech of contract for previously signed usage agreements. Plus, the San Diego Police Department stepped up and guaranteed a 24 hour mobile unit to be placed beside the shelter throughout the winter. Now we can all sleep better! I say this facetiously.

I am pleased that downtown San Diego finally, finally, found a location for our homeless community members.

It’s about time. ')}
