Picture your kids snuggling with Santa, beaming bright smiles and shining eyes. Standing nearby, you eavesdrop to hear their wish lists. Preserve the moment on film, and you have a heartwarming treasure to cherish for a lifetime. Whether you own real estate in Core San Diego or are just visiting downtown for the holidays, your kids will be pleased to learn they have the chance to meet Santa and give him their wish list. Here are places in downtown San Diego where your children can meet Santa this year.

1. Seaport Village – Professional Photos with Santa

Through December 24th, Santa will pose with children at the quaint white gazebo near the waterfront, and pets are invited to join the photos as well. You don’t need to make an appointment, and the pictures are ready within minutes. If your child is shy, the Santa Lady will be on hand, coaxing smiles. Several photo packages are available.

While at Seaport Village, your family can dine at one of 17 restaurants and browse more than 50 shops. If you visit the waterfront on December 11th and 18th, you’ll also have the treat of watching the Parade of Lights. Over 80 vessels will cruise past the pier at approximately 5pm on both days. Arrive early to stake out your space. Boat owners will receive prizes for the best decorations and creative lighting. The theme for 2016 is “It Began with a Roar – San Diego Zoo Celebrates 100 Years.”

This year, the parade route differs from previous celebrations. A second viewpoint will be available from the pier at Cesar Chavez Park. The boats will pass there before heading toward Coronado. Linger after they dock to watch the spectacular fireworks.

2. San Diego Zoo – Jungle Bells

Through January 2nd, the San Diego Zoo morphs into a dazzling wonderland with scintillating sculptures, Christmas music, animal encounters, and spellbinding storytelling. Storybook characters stroll the grounds, and holiday treats abound. Kids will have the opportunity to make crafts, play games, and take pictures with Santa. Here’s a sample of some of the things kids can enjoy:

Santa’s Igloo – Take photos with Santa at his residence. He welcomes your children’s presence through December 24th.

Twinkle Light Trolley – Board this 30-minute ride at the zoo’s entrance for a tour of the grounds and delightful surprises. The trolley departs every 15 minutes from 5pm to 7:30pm.

Toy Shop Hop – At Sydney’s Grill, Santa’s elves entertain with trampoline stunts.

Exciting Recital – Your kids will be captivated by Dr. Zoolittle, portraying his version of “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.” Lasting 25 minutes, the poem will come to life on the Koalafornia Boardwalk.

Carol of the Jungle Bells – Dancing lights perform to holiday songs along the Koalafornia Boardwalk.

Celebration of Lights – The zoo’s Christmas tree smiles with colorful lights, 4 times each evening for a 5-minute, megawatt grin.

Polar Express – At Rio Theater, take an exhilarating 4D ride to Santa’s home. Special effects enliven the experience, with vibrant sights, sounds, and aromas. Continuous showings are offered throughout the day.

No matter what time of year, there is always something exciting going on in downtown San Diego the whole family can enjoy, and living here makes it that much easier to have access to such events.
