San Diego’s upcoming MLB All-Star Game will give baseball fans the opportunity to experience an unrivaled and truly unforgettable sporting event. 2016 marks the third time that the Padres have hosted the Midsummer Classic. This year’s festivities will be held at Petco Park, and they’ll include a broad range of activities that will bring the public closer to their favorite baseball players and celebrities. While we can’t wait for the weekend’s events, we are also excited for the interest the event creates in downtown San Diego real estate.
All-Star Sunday
All-Star Sunday kicks off on July 10 at 4pm with the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. Played by the top prospects in the Minor League, this competitive, nine-inning event will be followed by an exhibition softball game featuring well-known celebrities and legendary All-Stars. This year’s exhibition game will include Pete Wentz of “Fall Out Boy”, soccer player Landon Donovan, swimsuit model Nina Agdal, and J.K. Simmons, a celebrated Academy Award winner.
MLB All-Star FanFest
The MLB All-Star FanFest runs from Friday, July 8, to Tuesday, July 12. Held at the San Diego Convention Center, this event includes a number of free giveaways and theme days. Over 40 MLB legends are scheduled to make appearances throughout FanFest with lengthy question-and-answer sessions and autograph signings aplenty. Former players will also host a number of baseball clinics, the cost of which is included in the FanFest admission.
Home Run Derby
For some, HRD is the main event—not the actual All-Star Game. The derby takes place Monday evening at Petco and follows the same bracket format as last year’s game. Seed positions were based on the number of total home runs through yesterday’s games. Home run leader Mark Trumbo and defending champ Todd Frazier headline the event.
87th MLB All-Star Game
The 87th MLB All-Star Game will be held on July 12 at Petco Park and nationally televised on FOX. The lineup from the American League includes David Ortiz, Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley Jr., Manny Machado, Jose Altuve, Salvador Perez, Eric Hosmer, Xander Bogaerts and Mike Trout. Players from the National League include Bryce Harper, Buster Posey, Anthony Rizzo, Ben Zobrist, Addison Russell, Kris Bryant, Yoenis Céspedes and Dexter Fowler. Game start time is 5:00 pm.

Spectators can fuel up before the game at local hot spots like Bub’s at the Ballpark, Tilted Kilt, Blind Burro, and Social Tap. These top-rated establishments are situated right near Petco Park and feature an impressive selection of beers on tap and affordable entrees and appetizers.
