Childrens Park Phase 1 approved in the Marina District in Downtown San Diego

The Center City Development Board approved the concepts for the Master Plan and Phase 1 for Childrens Park located in Downtowns Marina District across the street from the Children’s Museum and Pinnacle between First and Front Streets. The Children’s Park originally opened in 2008.

Phase 1 will leave the existing pond as-is and will create a separate interactive water feature. The proposed concept for the new water feature is a rain curtain that would be activated in conjunction with the trolley or some other activity. In addition, there will be a combination restroom and vendor building constructed and the existing pond equipment would be upgraded for increased efficiency. Other improvements include a proposed new multi-purpose lawn, childrens play equipment and pathways. The Children’s Museum and Children’s Park are a tribute to Downtown San Diego and San Diego’s civic concerns. The total cost for Phase 1 is estimated to be $3.2 million.
