The New Downtown San Diego Library - Project is one step closer to be built! The new Downtown San Diego Library in the East Village/Ballpark District is one step closer to being built as Mayor Jerry Sanders released the first updated cost since 2005. The construction bid came in $115,000 lower than the earlier estimate of $185 million.

The City Council also authorized a lease for a charter school that will be occuping two stories on the nine floor building and this will contribute $20 million towards the cost.

The new library will be 497,652 square feet including two levels of parking spaces, an auditorium and a coffee bar.
