East Village on the Rise

Since the early 1990s, San Diego’s East Village has been known as a hub for the city’s artists, designers, and culinary pioneers. In the last 10 years, the area’s warehouses and older residential buildings have been transforming, adding contemporary form and functionality to the area’s classic and hip vibe.

Inviting and Welcoming Tourists

Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres, opened in the neighborhood in 2014. The addition of one of the nation’s most exciting open air sports stadiums immediately attracted tens of thousands of visitors to the area, mostly San Diegans who hadn’t visited the neighborhood in decades. In 2013, the new Central Library opened in the neighborhood, designed by local architect Rob Quigley, known for his ultra modern So-Cal style. The Library’s striking, multi-story, steel mesh dome pays a powerful homage to both the rich history, and thrilling future of this iconic San Diego neighborhood.

Endless Food and Entertainment

The influx of new restaurants, bars, and shops looking to cater to the increasing number of visitors to the East Village has breathed new life into the entire community, resulting in an increased demand for contemporary housing options in the neighborhood. Some of San Diego’s most exciting new high-and-midrise condo developments are in the East Village, and urban buyers are flocking to the area to enjoy its renaissance.

Going Green

What’s next for the East Village? There is even more excitement on the way with the upcoming addition of the East Village Green, an innovative, multi-block, public green space currently being developed by the city. East Village Green is scheduled to begin construction in 2016, and it will fundamentality transform the livability of the community, offering acres of grassy space, a children’s playground, an off-leash dog park, a plaza for farmer’s markets and other special events, as well as an underground parking facility.
