San Diego Neighborhood Walks

Most people have spent time in (or at least heard of) San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. Yet there are many other downtown neighborhoods that are unique in their own right, offering countless options for shopping, dining and entertainment.

If you’ve never been able to explore “the other” neighborhoods of Downtown San Diego, a collaboration between The Downtown San Diego Partnership and Scripps Health is providing interested individuals with the chance to check out some of these vibrant communities during their lunch break.

Two Fridays out of the month, the Downtown San Diego Partnership and Scripps Health will be hosting their Lunchtime Strolls, a free 30-minute guided walk that features information about the featured neighborhood’s history, arts and entertainment, nightlife, shopping, places to eat and drink, and dog and kid-friendliness.  The following strolls are taking place in the upcoming weeks and require registration to join:

  • Stroll in Columbia District (March 27) – Beginning at Santa Fe Depot Fountain
  • Stroll in Core/Financial District (April 10) – Beginning in front of the Wells Fargo Building at 401 B Street
  • Stroll in Cortez Hill (April 24) – Beginning in front of the El Cortez Hotel Entrance at 702 Ash Street

Lunchtime Strolls are a great way to take in new sights and learn more about the downtown district. After a few strolls around the city, you’ll be the trendy friend who always knows a fun new happy hour to try or the best secret spot for Sunday Brunch. And if you’re thinking about moving to Downtown San Diego, you’ll be better equipped to find the urban community that best matches your lifestyle and personality.

The downtown district of San Diego is expanding more rapidly than ever. In fact, KPBS, a local news station, has shared that the number of people living in downtown San Diego has almost doubled in the past 15 years, with a big driver being millennials. Being referred to as an urban renaissance or urban rebirth, it’s easy to see why people are interested in checking out what the many Downtown San Diego neighborhoods have to offer.
