Downtown San Diego’s Newest Nightlife

For the last decade or so, Downtown San Diego has been known for its vibrant and exciting nightlife, but new spots popping up while there is still time to enjoy the summer scene has reignited excitement in locals and tourists alike. Whether you want to dance the night away or sip posh cocktails while people watching, the latest and greatest in Downtown can sate your appetite for nighttime adventure and fun.

Omnia

Omnia is the newest nightclub in Downtown San Diego, opening in the space previously occupied by Stingaree. Springboarding off the success of its parent club in Las Vegas, Omnia is sure to give popular hotspots in downtown a run for their money. With 22,000 square-feet of space, including a huge first-floor dance floor and a rooftop lounge, clubbers will be hard-pressed to have a bad time. Big-name DJs like Steve Aoki, Cedric Gervais, and Nervo all appear on the calendar, so plan in advance, consider a table, and be sure to dress nice.

Rustic Root – The Rooftop

This swanky rustic American restaurant has stepped it up a notch, recently unveiling the only rooftop restaurant in the Downtown San Diego Gaslamp district. Enjoy a delicious dinner and stay late as the rooftop transforms into a swanky lounge overrun with young professionals, schmoozers, and the expected pretty people. If people watching isn’t your thing, the rooftop features life-size animal topiary bushes, a unique cocktail selection, and a late-night menu if the munchies sneak up.

Cake

Scheduled to open next week, Cake is on 5th Avenue where Voyeur once was. The original Cake Nightclub in Scottsdale has been a huge success, giving this location some big shoes to fill. Cake is known for its bold design (described as “French chateau meets Alice in Wonderland”) and high standards, and hopes to offer something different than what’s currently offered in the Downtown scene.
