From November 23rd through the 27th, jazz fans in San Diego will be living it up because the 37th Annual San Diego Jazz Fest will be in full effect. The Music
The number one reason to head to the Jazz Fest is, naturally, the jazz itself. The festival offers something for just about every taste in jazz, including traditional jazz, Dixieland, ragtime, swing, and rockabilly styles. This year’s lineup includes High Sierra Jazz Band, Yerba Buena Stompers, Joe Smith and the Spicy Pickles, and over 30 other top-notch jazz bands.
The Location
As far as festival locations in San Diego go, it’s hard to beat the Town & Country Resort and Convention Center, which is just a quick jaunt from downtown. All of the festival’s venues are conveniently located in the Convention Center, with a mix of large concert rooms that have plenty of space for dancing and smaller, more intimate “listening” rooms. The Dancing
The music at the San Diego Jazz Fest isn’t just for listening to. It’s also meant to get you on your feet. This year, the Fest is welcoming in the swing dance community with a special Swing Dance Extravaganza on Nov. 26th. Dave Stuckey and his Hot House Gang and Joe Smith and the Spicy Pickles will provide the tunes, and Joel Plys & the Hang Ten Hoppers will provide dance tutorials. The night will include a battle of the bands and a swing dance competition where the winning couple wins a $500 prize.
The Food
Because it takes place over Thanksgiving weekend, the Jazz Fest also makes sure to provide attendees with the required turkey and stuffing. On Thursday November 26th, The Town and Country Resort will be offering a Champagne Thanksgiving Dinner complete with roast turkey, giblet gravy, candied yams, and pumpkin pie.
