Expansion of the San Diego Convention Center Approves Final Environmental Impact ReportThe expansion of the San Diego Convention Center in the Marina District in Downtown San Diego is moving forward as the completion of the final environmental impact report has been reported. There will be a public hearing taking place at the regular Board of Port Commissioners meeting on Wednesday September 19th, 2012 over at the Port of San Diego’s Administration Building, should you want to attend to receive more information.

The convention center expansion includes the following:

  • 220,150 square feet of exhibit hall space
  • 101,500 square feet of meeting rooms
  • 78,470 square feet of ballroom space
  • A new guestroom hotel tower with max 500 rooms
  • An additional ballroom/meeting facility to the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel
  • A rooftop park/plaza
  • Visitor-serving retail areas
  • A relocated water transportation center
