It is now decided that the new main Downtown San Diego Library is to break ground next month on a $185 million project.
The new library will be situated in the East Village/Ballpark District in Downtown San Diego, east of the condo community ICON and south of the condo community Metrome. The Library will be just one block east of Petco Park, two blocks south of the new Thomas Jefferson School of Law and two blocks north of the new Harbor Bridge Pedestrian Bridge.
The San Diego City Council voted 6-2 to get the project started under one condition. That a fundrasign campaign will be able to collect the additional $32.5 million needed to finish the library. If this is not meet, the city would either have to use tax payers money or leave the inside unfinished.
