The I.D.E.A District - New District in the East Village in Downtown San Diego

What does I.D.E.A stand for? Innovation, design, education and the arts…

Two developers, David Malmuth and Pete Garcia have proposed a design and educational district in the East Village/Ballpark District in Downtown San Diego that could generate 10,000 jobs and $1.8 billion in new construction. The new district, the I.D.E.A District would fill up 35 city blocks bounded by San Diego City College, Market Street, Park Boulevard and Interstate 5 and include several educational institutions.

David and Pete are planning to issue a vision statement in July, 2011 and look for companies and institutions that can make their proposed I.D.E.A. District a reality.

It potentially could contain:

  • 3 million square feet of offices and design studio space
  • 600,000 square feet of retail and restaurants
  • 2,200 apartments
