My favorite way to start off a Sunday morning is to walk out my door, down 2 blocks and go to the downtown 3rd Avenue Farmers Market. I recommend starting off with an organic coffee or juice and then just cruise and enjoy the sights, smells, and tastes of what local San Diego farmers have to offer. Put together by the San Diego Farmer’s Bureau, there are numerous Farmers’ Markets throughout San Diego County.
Over 6,000 farmers work to make agriculture a billion dollar industry in San Diego County. Many of San Diegos growers run small family farms, with 65% harvesting nine acres or less. These local farmers have developed a reputation for quality and high-value specialty crops.
Visiting one of San Diegos many Farmers’ Markets allows you to experience agriculture. These Farmers’ Markets are State certified; ensuring that the produce is being sold by the grower, is grown in California and meets all California quality standards. These criteria make certain that you will receive the freshest produce for a great price.
Many other products are sold at these Farmer’s Markets such as arts and crafts, clothing, music, and all sorts of organic products. There is a certain charm of shopping for your dinner outdoors that a supermarket certainly does not provide, plus, you will be supporting your local farmers. Check them out… Here’s a list of some San Diego Farmers Markets.
