Head to the Annual San Diego Festival of Beer

The 21st Annual San Diego Festival of Beer is just around the corner and expects to welcome nearly 4,000 beer-loving locals. This year, the festival will be giving residents with the same 21st birthday (September 18, 1994) a free ticket to the event.

When: September 18, from 6-10pm
Where: The Broadway Pier, Marina District
Cost: $40-50

Over 50 different microbreweries and craft brewers are expected to attend, serving up 120 tasty brews. Past participants include such favorites as: Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits, Barrel House Brewing Company, Coronado Brewing Company, Julian Hard Cider, Mission Brewery and Modern Times Beer. Venders such as Taste of Maine Lobster Shack and Hunter Steakhouse provide guests with tasty grub.

Assistant District Attorney, Rachel Cano, hoping to honor her mother who died of cancer in 1993, started The San Diego Festival of Beer in 1994 along with a group of professionals known as the San Diego Professionals Against Cancer. Around 300 volunteers run the event, and 100 percent of the festival’s profits go to support cancer research, treatment and patient services. Past recipients of funds from the charity event include Rady Children’s Hospital, Cancer Angels, The Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center and The American Cancer Society. To date, festivalgoers have raised over $555,000.

Tickets for the event may be purchased in advance or at the gate. Each ticket entitles the attendee to unlimited 2oz tastings, and wines are also available for $4-$5 a pour. The first 1,500 attendees will receive a complimentary tasting mug as well.

The event is open to adults 21 years and older. No children or pets are permitted inside the event. Photo identification must be presented along with a valid ticket in order to enter the event.
