It’s Valentine’s Day and you haven’t so much as picked out a card for your significant other. Whether it’s because you had a long week, simply forgot, or were just procrastinating, worry not. Living in Downtown San Diego affords you plenty of options for celebrating Valentine’s Day, and you may even be able to pass it off like you had a well thought out plan all along!
Wine Tasting
Spend a romantic afternoon or evening sipping your favorite wines with your loved one at San Diego Cellars, rated one of the top wine bars in the country by Eater National. Located in the quaint neighborhood of Little Italy, the small and cozy wine bar offers indoor and outdoor seating, which is perfect for the incredible February weather we’ve been spoiled by, and a small bistro so you can snack in between tastings. And with a number of local selections from the San Diego County and Temecula, as well as a few options from the northern regions of California, you’re sure to find a wine that you absolutely love.
Little Italy Mercato
The Little Italy Market is one of the recurring local events where you say you’d love to go, but don’t always get the chance. Take this Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to stroll through the market and pick out some fresh and locally grown products that you can later use for a romantic dinner and evening in. Of course, don’t forget to pick up a bottle of wine – or two – to celebrate!
East Village Bike Affair
Downtown San Diego is an extremely bike-friendly area, and this year, the East Village Bike Committee is hosting the East Village Bike Affair to promote the neighborhood as a livable urban village. So if you and your loved one enjoy riding along the water on the weekends, this Valentine’s event is the perfect one for you. From 10am to 2pm, ride your bikes to the East Village and enjoy free bicycle tune-ups, bicycle fashion, vendors from local cycling businesses and raffle prizes. There will even be local music ranging from funk and reggae to jazz.
Comedy Show
The Mad House Comedy Club, located in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter, still has tickets available for today’s 7:00pm show featuring Paul Ogata as seen on Comedy Central, Showtime, The Late Late Show, Comics Unleased and more. Tickets are only $15 for general admission, and $25 for front row access (tables for two and four if you’re thinking about inviting your favorite couple). What better way to spend the evening than sharing a few laughs?
A Day in Coronado
If you’re a San Diego resident, you’re likely familiar with all of the “must-see” tourist attractions like the Top of the Hayat or the Unconditional Surrender sculpture. But what about a day in Coronado? Sometimes, the beautiful waterfront city gets categorized with San Diego’s “touristy attractions” and its beauty is forgotten. Grab your hunny and catch the ferry to Coronado. After the short and refreshing ride, enjoy the ocean views while brunching at one of the many restaurants or walk around the sandy beaches for a day of quality time together.
Of course, if you’re looking for more traditional plans, you can always scour OpenTable for reservations near your Gaslamp Quarter condo and enjoy a wonderful night out. What are you waiting for? With so many options, it’s time to start planning for your Valentine’s Day celebration! ')}
