Moving is hard, whether you are moving across town or across the country. But it can be even harder if you forget some essentials you might need for your first few days and nights at your new place. When packing up and moving out, don’t overlook these must-haves.
One thing you want to make sure you aren’t without when you move in is utilities, so make sure to call and set up utilities you might need immediately such as electric, water, and internet ahead of time. If you get to your new downtown San Diego condo and haven’t set these up, it could take days to get someone out to do it for you.
You want to make sure you take some food with you and/or swing by any market to pick up a few basics like milk and cereal. With all the other moving-related expenses you have to cover, the last thing you want to do is rely on eating out for every meal.
You should be sure to pack your toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, face wash, moisturizer, deodorant, soap and feminine products in an easy-to-access place. Nothing is worse than showering after a sweaty day of moving only find you have nothing you need to get clean within reach.
If you have prescription medicine that you can’t do without, be sure to take that with you and don’t pack it away in boxes for the movers to take. Being without crucial medicines can be dangerous, and they aren’t the kind of things you can just replace easily in a day.
Make sure to take a couple of changes of clothes with you. Your moving truck could be delayed or it could take you a few days to wash and organize your wardrobe and it would be a drag to be without clean underwear and clean clothes.
It’s a good idea to bring along sheets, blankets, and pillows to your new place. Packing all that stuff with the movers could leave you in an uncomfortable conundrum.
