Downtown San Diego Hotspots

Regardless of how many long nights you’ve spent raging in the Gaslamp or the number of days you’ve stared wistfully at Petco Park from your office, your Downtown San Diego real estate agent will tell you that living in downtown is an entirely different experience than working or playing here. To help you get acquainted with your new neighborhood, here are a few must-visit spots.

Rustic Root

From the group that brought Side Bar, Fluxx, and the recently opened Mexican restaurant Don Chido, comes Rustic Root—Downtown San Diego’s only rooftop dining experience.  Set to open this spring, Rustic Root will serve rustic American cuisine featuring local ingredients.

Half Door Brewing

The two-story Half Door recently opened in Downtown’s East Village neighborhood and has been hoppin’ every since. Both floors have outdoor seating options, although the lower level is more of a veranda-style while upstairs is open and stares directly into Petco Park. Diners can look forward to upscale small plates and delicious entrees like short-rib brewer’s pie and fish n’ chips, and beer lovers can down an Irish stout, IPA, pale ale, and a tart beer.

Bracero

Opening this spring, Bracero will bring bold Mexican flavors and flair to Little Italy. Bracero will feature both casual and fine dining spread throughout a multi-level space, with each level having its own kitchen, bar, and patio. The menu will focus on modern Mexican cuisine, and offer Mexican spirits and wine from Baja’s wine country.

James Coffee Co.

Founded by the guitarist for Angels & Airwaves and Box Car Racer, James Coffee Co. brews a mean cup o’ Joe. They offer single-origin beans, exclusive blends, and don’t use sugar to sweeten the drinks.
