By Mike in Things to Do in downtown San Diego with 0 Comments

Summer is a busy season in San Diego, between beach days, BBQs, searching for real estate in downtown, and the summer holidays. But San Diego has plenty more to see and do, so don’t let your summer end without checking out these events that are running through Labor Day.

1. Horse Races at Del Mar

Enjoy the excitement of horse racing where the “turf meets the surf,” at the Del Mar Racetrack. Take in some history at this track that first opened in 1937, with Seabiscuit’s famous win by a nose in 1938. The top horses and jockeys in the country still race here, and the fans flock to watch them and wager on their favorites.

2. US Sand Sculpting Challenge and Dimensional Art Exposition

You won’t believe your eyes when you see what some of the world’s finest artists can create out of sand. This annual event draws people from all over the world to see these awesome sand sculptures, as well as to experience sailing ships in full regalia recreating cannon battles out on the bay. The event is great fun for the entire family.

3. Nighttime at the San Diego Zoo

You may have seen the San Diego Zoo before, but never like this! The Zoo is celebrating its centennial this year, and to mark the fun the gates are staying open late. Guests will be treated to more than just critters, so get ready to enjoy plenty of special shows, lively music, and all kinds of fun.

4. Julian Grape Stomp Fest

Enjoy this amazing wine and grape event set in the picturesque rolling hills just outside of San Diego. Enjoy the Italian music of Roman Holiday along with a host of events including stomping, bocce ball competitions, wine tasting, and plenty of food and crafts you can view and purchase. There’s also a jumbo jump for the kids. It’s the perfect family event.
