Hosting a Memorable Open House This Winter

By Mike in Selling Tips with 0 Comments

Thinking of selling your place? The cold months provide a unique opportunity to showcase your Downtown San Diego penthouse, loft, or condo in a new light in order to host a memorable and successful open house. Wintertime in San Diego is different than in other parts of the country, most notably because of the lack of snow, but that doesn’t mean you can’t create a beautiful and cozy winter scene that is sure to attract potential buyers.

1. Create Ambience with a Fire

One of the easiest ways to make your space feel instantly more cozy is to light a fire. If you have a gas fireplace or a new clean-burning woodstove, light that baby up and let the soothing crackling and popping sounds begin. Candles are an acceptable substitution for homes without a fireplace. Seasonal scents like cinnamon and apple cider are favorites during the winter months, and will fill your condo or loft with a delightful scent sure to please anyone who ventures through the front door.

2. Add Warmth to Each Room with Accent Pieces

You can drastically improve the feel of your home just by adding a few decorative accent pieces. Drape a soft throw across a chair, or add a pretty area rug in warm hues to the space. We promise you will like the results, and so will your visitors.

3. Decorate for a Winter Wonderland

If buyers can envision themselves living in your place, they are much more likely to make an offer. Make the home appear lived-in by decorating for the season, even after the holidays have passed. Put out flower arrangements with only white flowers, pick up throws or accent pillows in a cool ice blue, use gold vases or candles, or make dried flower place settings. The decor should not be excessive, since you could run the risk of creating a cluttered look. One or two simple holiday touches will do the trick.

4. Highlight Outdoor Spaces That Can Be Used During the Winter

Outdoor spaces like patios and balconies should be appropriately furnished and kept in fully functioning condition in order to appeal to visitors. The idea is to show how these outdoor areas can be utilized during the cold months instead of sitting empty. Light a fire in an outdoor fire pit, drape a couple thick throws across outdoor furniture, and string some small lights up to create a cozy feeling in even the smallest of these exterior spaces.
